Vietec raised £7377.52p for Children With cancer uk

We’re thrilled to announce that we raised £7,377.52 over the year for Children with Cancer UK.

Charity work is very important to Vietec and each year we endeavour to donate as much time, effort and money as possible to worthy causes. Vietec announced in January that Children with Cancer UK would be charity of the year for 2018.

This cause is very close to Vietec’s heart. Our Assistant Trainee Engineer Sam Blair was two years old when he was diagnosed with leukaemia and has since dedicated his time to giving back to the charity, by hosting fundraising events every year. As a company, we have supported Sam’s endeavours to raise vital funds for those who are in a similar situation.

Ashleigh from Children with Cancer UK says ‘Sam and his family have been involved with the charity for a number of years through various fundraising events but we were delighted in 2017 to hear Sam wanted to run the London Marathon for us and Vietec kindly also wanting to get on board to support a cause, close to his heart.

Vietec’s Operations Director, Stephen Oliver and Sam Blair took on the London marathon in April and raised over £1,300 between them towards the annual target. The marathon was reportedly the hottest on record.

Our 1st annual charity Golf Day in June, hosted at Gaudet Luce Golf & Leisure Complex, in Droitwich, saw more than 50 golfers take part in our 18-hole shotgun start competition. Our Golf Day was open to corporate organisations bringing teams of 2 or 4 to compete. The course also played host to several additional competitions; Hole in One, Longest Drive and Beat The Pro hosted by Professional Golfer Evie Carter, from European Golf Challenge. The competition gave our golfers the chance to win an array of Titleist prizes. European Golf Challenge, along with Golf Escapes, also hosted a Hole in One competition which gave any winners the prize of a holiday abroad.

Following 18 holes of golf, our golfers enjoyed a drink in the sun before a 2-course meal in the club house. During lunch, a charity raffle took place, with fantastic prizes donated by local and countrywide companies. Prizes included a signed Manchester United pennant, Worcester Racecourse County Enclosure tickets, Cineworld vouchers, Afternoon Tea at The Orangery, Glee Club tickets, Snow Dome indoor tobogganing, American Golf Vouchers, Edgbaston cricket tickets, Afternoon Tea at Southcrest Manor Hotel, Holiday Vouchers, Pure Gym passes, Four-Ball at any QHotel golf resort, Four-ball at Gaudet Luce Golf Complex, Wolves Club Shop voucher, Gin, and finally wine and Champagne. We are incredibly thankful to those who donated prizes, they were gratefully received.

There were some fantastic scores and prizes were awarded for the overall winning team and the individual winner of the day. The winning team was ICCP and our overall individual winner was Chris Davies, also from ICCP. As well as some fantastic scores, sadly our own Steve Mundell won the losers wooden spoon! Thank you to all that took part in the event, for donating your time and your money to such a wonderful cause.
We’re thrilled to announce that we raised £2,551.40 throughout the day for Children with Cancer UK towards the annual target.

Our final event was the Michael Neil Drew golf day in September, a charity day run by our Managing Director Phil Drew and his brother Chris in memory of their late father and brother.

Children with Cancer UK fundraise to support vital research into childhood cancer treatments, alongside supporting those going through treatment and their families.

Ashleigh goes onto say ‘We would like to say a huge thank you to Vietec for choosing Children with Cancer UK as their charity of the year for 2018 and thank you to everyone who contributed to the incredible £7,377.52 raised which will go towards the fight the injustice of cancer in children and help more children ring their end of treatment bell.’

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed and helped Vietec make this possible

Our Charity Golf Day will take place again next year on Friday 7 the June and we’ll announce our chosen Charity of 2019 in January along with further fundraising event details.
